A Story of Courage: From Page to Stage to History

Experience a unique collaboration with Think Tank Theatre featuring a presentation performed by kids, for kids—though adults are certainly welcome to attend. This special event includes a live reading of the stage adaptation of Lois Lowry’s Newbery Award-winning masterpiece, Number the Stars. Following the performance, guests are invited to meet Thor, the actual Danish fishing boat used to rescue Jewish families from the Nazis during World War II.

The Performance

During the German occupation of Denmark, the Jewish community faced the terrifying reality of the "Final Solution." In response, Danish freedom fighters of all ages risked everything in a daring race to save their neighbors. In this stirring play, young Annemarie and Kirstie Johansen must navigate tense encounters with soldiers, the weight of personal loss, and their own growing fears as they attempt to smuggle their best friend, Ellen Rosen, across the sea to safety in Sweden.

Through courage, ingenuity, and even their fledgling acting skills, these young heroes prove that no one is too small to make a difference. All the drama, adventure, and heart of the national bestseller come to life in this powerful adaptation, offering a rare opportunity to transition from a moving story to a real-world artifact of true heroism.
